8 NYC Buildings with Over-the-Top Amenities

It seems wherever you walk in this city, you come across scaffolding with sleek signage touting new luxury condos. And if you’re in the market to buy, then you know all too well how many of these buildings claim to have “unparalleled” amenities and services, only to discover that they have the same amenities as the last four buildings you visited: 24-hour doorman, state-of-the-art fitness center, children’s playroom, screening room, blah blah blah.

We took a look at some of the city’s luxury developments and put together a list of truly unique, ultra-lavish amenities.

The Kent | 200 East 95th Street

“The Sound Lounge” by Lenny Kravitz

Designed by Lenny Kravitz’s design firm, “The Sound Lounge” is a versatile rehearsal studio and recreational space with a built-in A/V system. Featuring professional quality amplifiers, guitars, a drum set and a piano, the space is designed to host musical performances, movie screenings or parties.

251 First Street

Stroller Valet

If the stroller is every Park Slope parent’s greatest ally, the logistics of storing said stroller is their greatest nemesis. Luckily, 251 First has a solution. The building has its own stroller valet and storage — great news for the typical “shoes off at the door, please” Park Slope parent. Residents can call down to the doorman before leaving the apartment to have their stroller ready to go once they get to the lobby. Once they return, residents can leave the stroller with the doorman to put in storage, where there are about 45 stroller spots — ample space for a building with just 44 apartment units. Now when you host a party or playdate, all that’s left to worry about is a gluten allergy.

100 Barclay Street

Wine Room & Wine Storage

100 Barclay has a private wine tasting room with seating for six that can be reserved in advance with building management.

In addition to the private tasting room, the building is also host to a climate-controlled wine storage room, chilled to the proper temperature of 55 degrees. The storage room has 54 lockers available for purchase, each with enough space to hold about 196 bottles. As if the building doesn’t take wine seriously enough already, they also provide residents with sommelier services from Tribeca’s New York Vintners — including guided tastings and wine locker stocking — for an additional fee.

520 West 28th

Private IMAX Theater

Screening rooms in luxury new developments are a dime a dozen, but 520 West 28th has the only private IMAX theater in New York City. Plus, it was custom designed by Zaha Hadid — need we say more?

200 Eleventh Avenue #PH1

“Sky Garage”

The penthouse at 200 Eleventh Avenue features an en-suite parking garage. As home to the only residential car elevator in the city, this penthouse is described as a “paparazzi-proof hideaway.”

One Riverside Park | 50 Riverside Boulevard

Rock Climbing Wall

New developments take their “state-of-the-art” fitness centers seriously, filling these spaces with the highest quality equipment and offering on-site personal training and fitness instruction, often in spaces with floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing unparalleled views. In addition to the new development standard of yoga, Pilates and personal training, One Riverside Park offers a rock climbing wall for the more adventurous fitness enthusiast.

53rd & 8th | 301 West 53rd Street

Valet Dry Cleaning Service

This Hell’s Kitchen condo building has a valet dry cleaning service right in the lobby, so residents can drop their clothes at the front desk on their way out the door. Now that’s what I call a New York minute!

150 Reade Street

Subterranean Vault

Over-the-top amenities aren’t just for luxury condominiums. A townhouse in Tribeca spanning six floors and 7,500 square feet has some extra security just below its cellar — a 450-square foot underground vault.

An added bonus to this subterranean vault is that its construction allowed for the implementation of geothermal heating and cooling systems for energy efficiency.

The townhouse’s neighboring building, 148 Reade Street, also has access to its own subterranean vault. After a little over a year on the market, it sold for $15.9M. 150 Reade Street has been on the market for nine months, originally asking for $16M; it is now listed for $13.95M.
